The Role
To support the modernising and strengthening of the Firm’s Finance function, we have identified a number of key projects to be implemented over the coming 12-18 months in which the Business Analyst will play a critical role. They will lead process automation initiatives, develop analytics including dashboards to improve visibility of operational and financial performance. They will support the Commercial Finance Manager in delivering financial insights, performance analysis, and strategic recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency. The Business Analyst will act as a bridge between finance and other departments, supporting data-driven decisions across the firm.Key Responsibilities
- Process Improvement & Automation
- Map, analyse, and re‑engineer finance and firm‑wide processes to remove manual effort and improve consistency.
- Lead the implementation of automation solutions (e.g., Power Automate, workflow tools).
- Implement structured controls and standard operating procedures for key finance processes (billing, WIP, cash collection, reporting, budgeting).
- Dashboard & Reporting Development
- Design and maintain dashboards and analytics tools using Power BI (or similar), providing partners and managers with real‑time, actionable insights.
- Consolidate data from multiple systems (PMS, HRIS, CRM, time recording, finance system) to create a single source of truth.
- Financial Analysis & Decision Support
- Support annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, scenario modelling, and profitability analysis.
- Assist practice groups with matter pricing, rate reviews, and portfolio profitability trends.
- Project and Change Management
- Lead or support cross-firm projects involving data, systems, workflow improvements, or finance transformation.
- Develop business cases, define requirements, coordinate testing, and manage stakeholder communications.
Requirements
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:
- 3+ years’ experience in a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or Finance Analyst role.
- Strong analytical skills with advanced knowledge of Excel and Power BI.
- Experience in process improvement, workflow automation, or digital transformation.
- Ability to gather and interpret business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Commercial awareness: understanding of pricing, profitability, and business drivers in a professional services environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence non‑technical stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Ability to work on your own initiative as required and as part of a team.
Experience in the following areas is also desirable:
- Experience working in a professional services environment (law firm, Big 4, consulting, or similar).
- Knowledge of legal practice management systems (e.g., Elite 3E, Aderant, Keyhouse, Practice Evolve).
- Familiarity with SQL, Power Automate, or similar technologies.
- Exposure to financial planning, pricing, or commercial analysis.
